This is an excellent paper for explaining the dissociative spectrum and how Dissociation is caused. It is very well written but the paper seems to indicate that most Dissociative Identity Disorder is the result of ritual abuse and programming. In my experience about one out of four people who have DID were ritually abused. The the majority of the other three out of four developed the DID as a result of repeated severe abuse at a young age.
